Serious clunking noise

Hey everyone,

A bit of an urgent question.

I recently herd my brothers car which has some serious clanking noise. At first i didnt think much off it and thought it might be in the valvetrain or something. We started the car again today and its worse and when i moved the car there was alot of rubber pieces under the car.

When we start the car, aside from the clunking noise, there is also a smell of burning oil. The rubber looks like it is coming from a drive shaft coupling - near the oil sump.

Im not totally familiar as to what is up in there - anyone can help me out??

Sound like the dampner is shotsky, its located in the housing right behind the engine where the clutch would be in a 5sp car. If you pull the starter you may get a better look......

yes, there is a rubber damper in there, called the 'flex disc' when it breaks up you get clunk city. it's akin to doing a clutch on the manual car, plan on having the transmission pulled, the driveshaft slid back, and $600 for a new flex disc (unless you buy a used one from a dismantler).

sorry to hear about this :(
