question on front emblem replacement

My front Porsche emblem has seen better days. I went to the how to at http://clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-09.htm seems pretty easy thing to do.

I follow this procedure to remove the nose panel, but I can't see the machine screw located under the front lip of the nose panel in each headlight bucket area that is talked about. My headlight buckets have a rubber seal of sorts that covers the retaining nuts at the bottom of the headlight bucket. This seal is blocking the view of machine screw under the front lip of the nose panel. Does this seal just pull out? Seems like it should, but I don't want to rip it.

I will post pictures tomorrow of what I'm talking about.

did you see this?

"Remove the machine screw under the lip of the nose panel using a 10mm socket, universal, 2 inch extension, and ratchet. A 1/4" Drive 10mm socket is small enough to fit under the lip of the nose panel."

Yes, and that is the problem. Ihave a big rubber seal that runs along the bottom of my headlight bucket. It is in the way. My questions is how do you remove the seal?

On my 85.5 the emblem was just pressed into plastic grommets. All I did was pry very carefully around the edge and came right off. You can get your hand under emblem and feel to see if there are speed nuts or just the pins holding it in place

my 83 just pulled off too.. i'm not sure what year they started screwing them down..

The rubber just lifts out of the way--pull it up(you don't have to remove it) and you can access the screws.

Yep, just what Eric said. The rubber peices can either be pulled out or just lifted enough to get to the screws.

I just replaced mine last week on an '86. The two post simply set into two rubber grommets. No sign of speed bolts. The rubber gasket seamed a little small to fit around the emblem. I gently stretched it, enlarging it enough to fit. The new ones looks ten times better!
