Hand Brake Question...

When coasting in neutral coming to a stop, if i apply my hand brake there is a loud pop from the rear. The brake works, but something must be in a bind.

I wouldn't do that either, if for nothing else than the person behind you won't see your brake lights go on. You might get a ticket, too.

Dude you shouldnt have to pull your e brake to spin that thing around.heres my advice if you wanna look cool and make the girls smile and think less of their mans mustang.nail your brakes not the e brake your flat spottin your tires doin that it will effect the way your car drives remember here its a precision machine and its all about high speeds and good tires are the best thing for any vehicle thats to be driven fast.so anyhow nail your brakes the power assisted ones just for a sec drop a gear as your doin this and stand on the throttle.you gotta be on this timing is key oh and dont forget to cut the wheel.might take ya a few tries but youll get it.practice this get it down to a science before you do it out on the open road.remember be fast but be safe. and buckle up you might know what your doin but that dont mean that other drivers know what theyre doin.i put my head thru the windshield of a 924s when a kid ran a stop sign and got pontiac all over the front of mein porsche and totaled it.had i been wearing mine i wouldnt have been life flighted and wouldnt have headaches every day all day for the rest of my life the passenger cabin of the car stayed intact.wear your seat belt

wow. i feel dumber now, you just made my brain hurt.

my hand brake pops too (in my 944), so it must be normal. one day i'll pull it apart and see if i can figure out just what is making the popping noise.

(/sarcasm on) oh really vader? (/sarcasm off)

the e-brake (also called HANDBRAKE by those who aren't retarded) is a drum and shoe system inside the rear rotor.

us guys? who is us guys that flatspotted our tires and wore our brakes out doing dumb s#*t? what you describe doing could easily be called dumb.

'powering your car into a 180 spin' to me equates to a loss of control, not some cool stunt to impress your 14 year old friends.

(/reply to retarded post over)

bottom line - the popping i believe is normal, obviously, ignore anything vader says.

hey Z-man, do something about this troll please

There are emergency brakes and there are parking breaks. The Porsche has a parking break meaning there not strong enough to stop a car. Just hold it from rolling at a stop. Keep in mind how fast they wear and expensive the pads are.

Thanks for the input. I was only testing the brake, and noticed that there was a pop. I don,t do this on a regular basis.

The rear brake SHOES hit the aluminium stop at the opposite end to the adjuster, this is part of the hub casting. As there is a slight clearance between this stop and the ends of the shoes when the brake is applied on the move you hear a noise caused by the shoes moving round (fractionaly) and banging against the stop.
