944 Pricing throughout the country
What kind of pricing is the 944 getting throughout the country? I read in many different posts what they are going for in different areas. We all know our cars pretty well and what to expect of them cost and satisfaction wise.
If you're interested list the following and any other ideas, thoughts, or suggestions: Year and model of your 944? How much did you pay for your 944? How long ago did you get it? What was the condition of your 944 when you bought it? How much money did you have to spend and what parts had to be replaced or repaired to get it reasonably drivable and dependable? What upgrades have to added to the car? Cost of the upgrade? Was the upgrade worth the time and/or money? Future plans for your 944? Future upgrades to your 944? How much would you sell your 944 now to the real world? ![]() How much are 944's going for in your area and what kind of shape are they in?

1987 944 n/a
I paid $2400 for mine at an auction. First Porsche, no records. I bought the 944 almost 3 years ago. The car looked decent. Oil leaks everywhere. Bad PS pump. Many electrical problems. No radio. Clutch on it's way out. Normal wear and tear for these cars at this age on the interrior. Decnet paint job, some minor flaws. It did drive well. $600 into the PS pump. Paid someone to put it in (mistake). I took care of all the electrical problems. Most were things unplugged, plugged in backwards, burnt out bulbs. Clutch job coat $1800 at a tranny shop. I would now do that work myself. Basice CD/radio was $300 installed w/speakers. Belts, water pump, cap, rotor, new front seals at the dealer was $1300. I would not do this work myself too. I upgraded the stereo to a double din Cd/DVD/radio with a bass tube and amp. Looks and sounds good. Added an alarm, power locks, and a remote for the power hatch. New fuel injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and a mounted fuel pressure gauge for a supercharger set up. New stereo and set up cost about $1K. Alarm and extra features was a total of $300. I did the locks and hatch myself. The SC project to date is at $500. I plan on keeping this car for a long time. Future plans are to finish the SC upgrade, all new interrior, and new paint. The way the car sits I would not part with it for anything less than $6K. It is solid and very dependable. And it has a nice system in it. Current 944's in the Buffalo, NY area are all selling for $6K to $9K for n/a's. I have yet to see a turbo or an S for sale around here. These cars all have between 100K and 150K on them, all have records, and none have oil leaks. They all have the normal wear and tear on the interrior and most, if not all the electricals work.

1986 944 NA Black with Burgundy Leather
Paid $2700 Purchased Nov. 2006 The car ran fine has a few upgrades Chip, Throttle Cam, Exhaust system 2.5 inch after market loud sounds like a rice rocket, will go back to stock when I find a good used exhaust system. Decent CD sound system already in the car, will keep that. Car also has an after market AST remote start/alarm system that is out of here as soon as I can get it uninstalled ( long story ) do not need it where I live, my dogs can hear anything coming up the road, and god forbid you should come up my drive way. nuf said.... Was drivable as purchased... Upgrades, purchased rear sway bar have not installed it yet, HEY I am still working under the front of the car as yet. Cost $25.00 used good bushings and all mounting hardware. Future Plans, keep it, but sort out all the POs neglect. Future Upgrades: Install rear sway bar, new rubber (tyres), maybe a nice set of Cookie Cutters, do not like Phone Dials. Will Not Sell!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT MORE P CARS..... 944`S 924S in my area are anywhere from $1500 Parts Cars to a very nice 1986 951 for $11,000 Market does not seem out of line with the rest of the Country except for California ( to much bucks ) |

Over in the UK prices for older Porsche models seem to be a tad more buoyant. My 62,000 miler 1983 Lux cost a little under £3,500 - around $7,000. Later models touch almost £10,000

This one's going for almost $16,000 and, at 80000 on the clock would be considered quite high mileage. http://www.exchangeandmart.co.uk/iad/Motors/Cars_for_sale/Porsche/944/object?emcode=8089269&sid=xz2cow40LyT712638

Here is an interesting question, does anyone have the numbers, how many 944s (944, 951, 968 ) were made for North America and how many were made ROW, could this be the reason for the diff. in values?
Just wondering???????? ______________________________________ 1986 944 NA Black with Burgundy Leather RIP SoCal Driver, God Speed |

Numbers are in Clark's I think under the FAQ section. Looks like half the total 944 production life run came to the US and the other half to the rest of the world.
http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq03.html Could be a lot of reasons for pricing differences in different countries. Production volumes, parts availbility, and the base cost of any car in other countries. Look at gas prices in these other countries.

$3500 for a 57,000 mile all original 1984 white 944 with cookie cutter wheels. New tires, radiator, timing belts and clutch. Bought 10 months ago and basically have done nothing to date but ready to do brakes all around and change the original brake hoses.

oops, i guess i should have paid attention to the format...
Year and model of your 944? 1984 944 How much did you pay for your 944? 4,500 How long ago did you get it? 6 years (late 2001) What was the condition of your 944 when you bought it? very good, garage queen, 68k miles, sunroof delete How much money did you have to spend and what parts had to be replaced or repaired to get it reasonably drivable and dependable? just the belts/rollers/pump initially. after 30k it needed a clutch, and transmission seals, and various other odds and ends. it did have a computer failure also, i guess i should mention that. thank God for parts cars What upgrades have to added to the car? i've got S2 sways, put koni's on the rear, a strut brace, and i keep changing exhaust setups. i also put 924S gauges in, the right way, with the tach in the middle. other than that, she's stock *edit* i also changed to a manual steering rack. also out of a parts car so 'free', but the new tie rods cost me... Cost of the upgrade? i probably spent less than $550 on the upgrades Was the upgrade worth the time and/or money? yes, absolutely. the car handles fantastically, and i LOVE the manual steering! Future plans for your 944? probably continue to use it as a foul weather car, i'm not going to sell it. Future upgrades to your 944? not much left to do, maybe put some adjustable struts up front... that's about all that's left! How much would you sell your 944 now to the real world? in the real world, if i were to sell it, i'd try to get 5k out of it... that may be a bit high, but i hear prices are on the rise? How much are 944's going for in your area and what kind of shape are they in? my boss wants 9k for his '89 944 with 82k on the clock... hahaha.... he's got way more in it than it's worth. i haven't seen many others for sale, most for sale near me are beaters, around 1500-2000. there was a nice white turbo with sport seats for sale for around 8k a few months ago, but i don't know what happened to it. i'm out of the price game, because i really haven't looked lately.

Year and model of your 944? 1988 951S
How much did you pay for your 951S? i don't want to say, it was a steal, and i'm afraid you all will murder me. How long ago did you get it? october of '06 What was the condition of your 951S when you bought it? good, but a little rough around the edges. needs front bumper, and rear bumper endcaps painted. good interior except dash and minor hole in drivers side seat bolster. How much money did you have to spend and what parts had to be replaced or repaired to get it reasonably drivable and dependable? approx $400 for tires, $100 to have a wheel straightened. it needs a few other odds n ends, but those can wait What upgrades have to added to the car? i've just replaced the stock bypass valve with the aluminum one off ebay, and i will be putting a test pipe on as soon as i dig into the exhaust leaks. Cost of the upgrade? Was the upgrade worth the time and/or money? the bypass valve was $60, worth it. test pipe, $175, jury is still out until i install it Future plans for your 951S? continue fixing all the little crummy issues, get the bits painted, and enjoy. Future upgrades to your 951S? well, i still have to install that test pipe. maybe a wastegate... and i'll think about chips. for now i'll leave this one unmolested. How much would you sell your 951S now to the real world? well, since i know what it is, and how rare it is, i probably wouldn't let it go for less than $12k (after i fix the mechanical issues)

Year and model of your 944? 1984 944 NA
How much did you pay for your 944? $1500 How long ago did you get it? 1 year and 1 month What was the condition of your 944 when you bought it? Pretty bad, bought it from a construction worker who used it for his job. How much money did you have to spend and what parts had to be replaced or repaired to get it reasonably drivable and dependable? Both of my inspections have been $600-odd, first one needing a lot of different things, the second one because the linkage on the transmission went, then I had to get a new starter (about $300) and alternator was rebuilt ($250ish) What upgrades have to added to the car? Only subwoofers Cost of the upgrade? $35 for the first ones (stolen D:<) $50 for second two. Was the upgrade worth the time and/or money? Most of the time Future plans for your 944? Keep it running as long as possible Future upgrades to your 944? Hope to SC it some day. How much would you sell your 944 now to the real world? Wouldn't sell it. How much are 944's going for in your area and what kind of shape are they in? I think the normal $5kish for one in good condition.

Russell B is a 944/951 owner and makes chips specifically for the 951, 944S, 944S2 and he is working on a 944 N/A 85.5-89 chip right now. Great support, awesome product. He has dyno charts showing a 8-12hp gain from his chips. I could immediately tell the difference and could absolutely feel it as well. I am more interested in how it felt to me, as opposed to dyno's. I do not race so that much does not matter to me, it just feels peppier. He was running a special for rennlist members for $150, now the chips are $175. Still a great bargain IMHO. Took me a couple of hours to install. I had problems getting the DME back into place. Cory |
