Clock Question
 

I finally have a good working clock and it looks good! The only problem is that it does not light up with the headlights on. It stays it's normal darker color. It's great in the daylight, but you don't even know a clock is there at night.

Is this normal??? When I installed the clock it looked like the plug could have been plugged in 180 degrees from the way it's plugged in now. I put it in the way the old clock came out and I did not try to plug it in differently. Clark's says nothing about the plug.

It would be nice to have it working at night too. :)

does the light bulb work? I had the same thing happen to me when I bought my car. It now works 100%.

What light blub? The only light blub I saw in there was for the cigg lighter. Is there a seperate light blub for the clock too? Or is it a part of the clock?

OK... Clock can only be plugged in one way. There is the world's smallest light blub in there. WTF! Any help or tips with getting those wires in there?!?!? I got two new blubs. Broke the wires on both blubs... maybe next time I should buy 10 blubs!

You make it sound so easy! I can get it apart and back together without a problem. I cannot seem to get the wires where I need them. Do I need to solder them back on? The blubs have very thin, frail wires at the ends of them. While trying to get the wire in the side holes at the bottom, like the original ones were, I broke the wire from bending it too much. I tried just putting the blub in the socket with hopes that the spring in the wire would be enough to make and keep contact, but no suck luck.

Any detailed suggestions on how to get these &*#@*)$#&#@%^$* in? :)

it is simple, just small and tedious. Push the tabs in on the sides of the socket and slide the tabs out, with your new bulb, simply straighten out the wires, make them look like lets, then gently fold them around the metal tabs and carefully insert it all back into the plastic socket, no need to solder...

I'm looking at my old clock and I see (2) contacts and a female soket where the light goes. I attached a pic for reference. I remove my dash (not for the faint of heart) took lots of pics and wire numbered everything. You either can make them of buy em' at a hardware store. They are in the electrical section. They are adhiesive back numbers. Using a set of numbers, mark the male connector and the female connector/gauge.

This stuff all looks the same after awhile. The numbers are a lifesaver.

Jim, I have an 87, different clock. Not sure if the blub is the same setup or not. Those wires are a PITA. :)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I didn't know that.

When I put my dash back together, I did need to solder new female connectors onto 2 wires because I accidentally broke them. Admittedly, there isn't much leeway to get at things. Take your time.

My clock is the same as the above picture. There is a slip in plastic bulb hoder that goes in that tube/hole. Harness is spldered to the two tabs on the bulb holder. If the wires are missing, jumper over to any other bulb. Mine 924 has the lighted oil presure gage a couple inches away.
