door buzzer
how do you deactivate the bloody door buzzer...
or at least change/upgrade it to a more pleasing sound? what would need to be removed / added? I've wanted to bash that thing with a hammer for over 2 years now.. first two months of ownership.. silence... bliss.... then... it's like bob saget.. just when you think he's gone, some dumbass gives him another show...

Take the relay out. Its a rather large one with a 928 part #, it has a perforated top cover.

The 87 944 has the buzzer in the relay in the fuse box. It is big. Mine dings when I open the driver door, keys in or not. Must be a bad wire somewhere.

John, does the radio work with the keys out? How old is the ignition switch? (here we go again!)

Radio and amp are power all the time. That's the way they are wired. I am guessing it's the original ignition switch.

But the power windows and power mirrors do not work unless the car is running or the ignition is in the run position.

There's actually a sensor in the ignition switch to tell if the key is inserted and that sensor is independant of the key position. That may be what's stuck. Sometimes simply lubing the lock cylinder will help this.

My door switch was unplugged. When I had the alarm installed they today me the door switch did not work. So I took it apart. I found it unplugged so I plugged it in. NOw I have dome lights but I have to listen to the dinging while the door is open. I would rather have the lights and alarm work properly and deal with the noise.
I'll try WD40 in the ignition today when I actually make it out to the garage.

WD40 in the ignition and on the key worked! By the looks of it... there are two metal pieces right where you put the key in the ignition. When you put the key in the ignition the key spreads the two pieces apart. That must be the switch. When they are spread apart with no key in the ignition the dong dings. The WD40 must have cleaned the junk out of there. It no loger dings with no key in the ignition and the door open!
Thanks for the suggestion Aaron!

It worked well. A lot of people complain about WD40. I have never had problems with it.
