really getting ready to give up.
DME has crapped out again... still need to fix fuel lines and front struts. Running out of $$, time, and patience. If anyone wants an '88 944 that really is mostly in good shape, just ugly, I'm open to more practical trades. It's been a good driver for a couple years and a colossal pain in my ass for the last six months. Located in Falls Church, VA.

Nate,
I have my two struts that just came off my car. They are decent if you're interested. What's wrong with your struts??? What's going on with the DME? Cold solder joints? What's wrong with the fuel lines? |
I'm going to do the Koni conversion, if I can fix everything else... I've got several sets of junk struts now, I don't need anything more. Just need to order the Konis and modify/paint a pair of strut housings.
The DME was resoldered a couple months ago. This AM car would not start again, but would after smacking the floor. Therefore I ASSume that someone needs to go through it and resolder the whole thing. Problem is that this is the girlie's daily driver since her Corrado is apart, so I need another DME if I'm going to do it myself. The fuel lines are the typical issue with the factory line being baked over the exhaust. It's been repaired with simple high pressure hose and clamps, but the only mechanic I've found has an issue with that and wants to replace it with new factory parts (more $$ than the car is worth.) I was going to replace with something like the Pauer Tuning lines but a) I haven't had the time to do it and b) I haven't had the money to do it c) a friend has my ISO flare tool... I've been trying to pick away at the little issues on the car and every time I get a couple little things done it seems that another major issue crops up and needs immediate attention. nate |
bump... I've officially posted car for sale, unless I find a reasonably priced DME. $3000 OBO, details in "cars for sale" post. Car will have to be trailered, obviously, as it does not run but with a new DME and front shocks would be a good driver.

Sorry to see it go! Maybe you can take the cash and get one in better shape. :)

I think it's time to just give up and get something boring, and/or start driving my Studebaker regularly. I'm kind of hoping that someone will come through with an affordable DME for me, because I like the car, but through "regular channels" the price of the parts the car needs is rapidly approaching the value of the car. To someone who has the time to work on it all the time it'd be a great car, as it really is solid, but for someone who just needs a car to drive (like me) not so much.

Re: really getting ready to give up.
I'd be interested if it wasn't on the wrong coast, I've been considering selling my 'hardtop' and getting one with a sunroof.
But I hope you're able to find that DME, it'd be a shame to let the car go after all the work you've put into it. See my sig for my take on these cars, they're a blast to drive and not too hard to work on, but not the best DD choice  Good luck! Quote:

(edited my double posting mistake)

I've been so tempted lately to buy an NA and gut it/turn it into a racecar.
But my wife will only let me have one project car at a time... |
