Brake fluid situation/clutch
About a year ago i had unsuspectingly lost brake fluid in my resovoir and when pressing the clutch pedal down to the floor, it did not hydraulically come back up. I had air in the system and had to bleed the system. I believe i replaced the clutch slave cylinder.
I don't think that fixed the problem for good. My clutch pedal was normal again but i still slowly leaked brake fluid. Nowadays it leaks quite a bit. I buy a large brake fluid bottle that lasts me about a week. It's a pain constantlyl refilling every couple days. And last night i knew i was low and the clutch pedal fell to the floor again. Usually i can stop the car, refill, pump the pedal and save it from disaster but it didnt work last night and i am in need of help. I am also trying to sell my car and this delays things. I don't want someone else to deal with this. Do i need the clutch master cylinder replaced and then bleed the system to fix the leak, or is it my brake master cylinder. I notice my brake pedal is covered in fluid. So is my floormat since i have cheaply dealt with this problem for awhile. It's an 83 5 spd 944

Can you see where it is leaking from? It is possible to have a bad line somewhere? Unless you are leaking oil everywhere you should be able to find a puddle somewhere and trace it to the leak.

I usually park in the grass but i never have noticed a puddle on the driveway. All i know is my drivers floor mat is soaked in it and has been for some time. I think its internal. I could never figure out if it leaked from pressing my brakes or my clutch. Within a week, driving my car normally the reservoir will be empty.

I would look inside the car too. Crawl under the dash with some safety glasses on and try pumping the clutch with your hand. You don't want that junk getting spraying in your eyes! I have a stain on my driver floor mat in the same area you are talking about. I am guessing my PO had the same problem you are having.

I crawled down there and pumped the clutch and brake and did not see any leaks. The brake pedal seemed a little slippery with fluid but the clutch did not. The floor is stained and soaked and i think i did see a tear in the clutch master rubber boot? I don't know. Im dirty and angry as i see my friend drive off in his perfect never broken down car that he doesnt even pay for.

lol... too funny...sounds like something is leaking there for sure. Did you look at the procedure in Clark's? You could take it apart and see what's bad.

I see the leak! When i press the clutch down a small droplet of fluid falls through the rubber boot. Is that that clutch master cylinder?

Not sure... sorry! Can you pull the boot back at all to see exactly where the leak is coming from? Maybe something just needs to be tightened.

Look here! Good pics and a good procedure. At least with this info you should be able to see what you need to fix.

Not that you care... but now I know where that plastic cover goes that's been in the back seat of my car since I had it!

I would assume master cylinder. You should have replaced that when you did the slave because usually if one is leaking, the other will follow suit shortly after. Replacing the master cylinder is easy as pie but getting to the bolts is my far one of the worst things I have ever experienced with one of these cars. Try changing out the master cylinder for an OEM one and see what happens. If it's not that it has to be in the lines somewhere. For the record the clutch and brake work on the same fluid so it's possible it's something with the brake booster if it's not the master cylinder. Just my 2 cents....

that is the clutch master cylinder... it's no more difficult to replace than the slave...
replace the master and you should be good to go.

Sounds like clutch master cylinder. Also check the grommets between the reservoir and the brake master cylinder.
