overreacting??

I am so pissed right now, purchased a 1989 944 turbo S about 3 weeks ago, great shape love the car. Called my mechanic (works on my other 944) for a state inspection, he couldn't fit me in for a couple of weeks, recommends another local shop for inspection. Called other shop and no problem we can do it tomorrow, so I dropped it off this morning, he calls a couple of hours later saying all it needs it a wheel alignment (he can't do, another shop to do this), not a problem. Wife stopped by and paid him before he closed, we went over to pick it up about 7:30 this evening and what the HE*L!

It looks to me that someone put a jack under there, since they are closed I took a couple of pics and left it in his lot, I will be stopping by first thing tomorrow a.m.

Maybe I am overreacting but it makes me sick, I guess things could always be worse! Thanks for letting me vent.

Rob

unfortunate but the other shop didn't know what they were doing.

was it a foreign shop or just a shop?

Same thing happened to my car. I left it at a garage for the WHOLE winter for a clutch job. They kept it in the heated garage so it saved me some space in my heated garage at home. When I got it back the hood was scratched to hell. Went back inside and they thought it was like that when it came in. WTF. They will "hook me up" with their buddy that does paint work. Chalked it up as my loss. I will paint the car myself!

Good luck on getting them to own up to it. They will blame it on each other. I would file a police report and make the shop you left the car at pay for it. That or sue their insurance company.

That is BS!

the shop you left the car at is responsible if they send the car out to get work done on it to their own guys (ie. not a shop of your choice)...

if they dont do anything, I'd go to the police... do you have any pics of before?

do you have recent pics? If so you may need them. Also look for clean jack marks under the car and snap a pic so you can prove its a new issue.
sorry man..

Looks like it could have been "those things" on a lift that they "kick" under the car to lift it in the air. Maybe the lift wasn't all the way down and the 944 being a little lower they caught it right in that spot.

bearone2,
the shop does mostly domestic cars. Hind site being 20/20, I should of just waited, but I took my mechanics advice without questioning the other shop.

jkrustchinsky,
Yeah I think that is what pisses me off the most is that he didn't say anything about it over the phone or to my wife. I am pretty sure he had to know about it.

I am usually very laid back, but I went ballistic when I saw it, I am just glad he wasn't there or it would have gotten ugly.

We'll see what he says in the morning.

Maybe it was one of his guys in the shop and he didn't say anything when he did it. BTW, I don't own a lift...

fortunately I do have before pics, this was taken about 2 weeks ago, here is one of that side

I agree they should be held responsible, and I will do my best to make sure they are, I would hate to have to call the police, hopefully it won't come down to that.

I will try and get a pic of the underside tomorrow a.m.
When I looked under there you can see that the lower molding is bent up and is all marked up, and the bottom part of the dent is where the paint is cracked and chipping off.

dont go in there guns blazing. Be calm first, but be clear what your expectations are.

Also, police wont do anything, its a civil matter.
You can always call your insurance company and file a claim and they will take it up with them if they are difficult.

It is a civil matter. A police report will document the damage and time frame accuratly for a civil suit or hopefully for his insurance to just pay for it.

I would talk to him first too. I have NEVER had any luck with shops coming clean on their mistakes. Espically on a car this old and with before and after pics. The blame game shall begin.

What sucks is that they will prob only pay for that small area. Good luck blending that paint in well.

Good point
I have settled down since this happened (a few drinks helped) and like I said I am pretty laid back and I know ***** happens, I just hope he is as honest as other locals have told me he is.
