Here's a newbie question for you....
I've looked at many beautiful 944's posted here, and I've yet to see one with the questionable hood scoop that's on mine. It was installed by the PO, and it's so obviously aftermarket (bad, crooked cut visible from under the hood, looks like it was done by a drunken union worker weilding a jigsaw, and above the hood, cracking epoxy around the base).
Does having such an air inductor help at all, or will it just spill more water on my ignition coil every time it rains? Personally, I don't like it, because it breaks up the nice, clean lines of the 944. Anyone selling a 944 hood, if the scoop is as worthless as it seems? http://www.vitaerising.com/modules/g...side.sized.jpg |
I always question it too. I mean the air intake is on the other side and further to the front as well. Never could see how it helps anything except cool the headers perhaps or the battery.:) It is an early 924 Turbo/GTR design and iirc the intake did enter over there where your scoop is but not certain. The design just stuck with owners so they install one for looks so it seems.

replace your hood. the scoop creates an incorrect airflow and does nothing else.
on the gtr 924 turbos, the intercooler lived there. |
It was prob a cheap hood off a 924 turbo, assuming that it would fit properly. I have seen 944s with the scoop on the other side. I agree, I don't like them either.

If it was on the other side you could make hook up a ram air type system or CAI.
