Hey guys, Im about to get all my parts back from the machine shop this week so I can finally start getting my car back togther. The machine shop Im using seems to know their stuff and they are right down the road from where I work and everyone speeks highly of them, even know they do take a little longer to do things. Anyway I get a call from the machine shop guy yesterday telling me my stuff should be ready at the end of the week. He also wanted to know if I wanted to have him install the pistons back onto the connecting rods, I said yea why not, then he tells me it might be better If I do it because he isnt sure which way the connecting rods go on and didnt want to install them wrong, SO my question for you is, Does anyone know if the connecting rods can be installed in any direction or is there a certain way to install them (Like the pistons with the arrows point towards the front of the engine) Do the connecting rods have some mark on them??? or does it not matter??? Anyway I should have payed more attention, Sorry for the long story. Thanx guys

I don't believe that there is a specific direction of insertion when new. That being said, usually you want the items removed to be put back in the same orientation as they were removed, if nothing else for good mojo. I marked the location of the dots on the rods when I pulled the pistons but i did not seperate the pistons from the rods so both went back in in the same direction.

Hayens doesn't specify an order or direction. They say "respectively" once in the whole instalation procedure. And that was only pertaining to matching the rods with the pistions. Same idea as what 944boy is talking about.

Do you have the manuals? I'll try digging them out of the manuals to see what it might say in there... I'll post back if I find anything more.

Yea, I have downloaded the manuals but couldnt find it. I dont think it really matters, Everything has been zero balanced so It shouldnt matter what piston is on what rod. They have new rings installed so it shouldnt matter where they are installed in the block. I just looked at a old connecting rod and it also doesnt look like it would make a difference. Just confirm my above Ideas and I should be good to go ;-) Thanx alot guys
