Mystery clunking noise??
 

I have a clunking sound coming from the front of the car. I recently repalced the struts. and that didnt help. I checked every single front end componenet on the car. everything is tight and solid.
Any Ideas?? :confused:

I had the problem for a little while too. It was more so when going over bumps at a slow speed. I had my struts in and out a couple times. The last time I made sure everything was real tight. I think some of it may have been coming from the 4 nuts at the top of the shock tower. I tightened them as tight as I could get them with a 6" pipe. I don't hear the noise anymore. Who knows if that was the real problem or not. The noise sounded like something was loose and banging together.

Exact same thing. Only at slow speed. I can also feel it through the brake pedal a bit.

look closely at the swaybar bushings - it is very common for a leak to contaminate the bushing and cause it to have free play which is not immediately evident upon visual inspection - there should be NO free play in that bushing - any free play results in a very noticable "clunk" and/or "rattle" sound on bumps and such

+1 Flash. There was just a post about the same noise and the bushing was missing. I have new "body" sway bar bushings. When I put the struts in last time I made sure everything was tight.

The infamous bushing is the bushing on the sway bar that connects the sway bar to the body on the passenger side. It get's soaked with oil leaks, PS leaks, and more oil if the oil filter is not carefully changed. Look at that first. If it's bad then get the part number off the bushing on the other side. These cars had many options of different sway bars. If you get a good number right off of it then you'll know you are getting the correct ones. If that's even the problem. :)
