No spark
I was on my way home tonight, hitting some twisties mighty hard. I slide around one turn and there was a little hick up/ loss of power. It was similar to sloshing fuel, but I had plenty. I didn't think much of it and pounded the next turn. My car just shut down. I coasted down the hill to my friends house thinking it may have been the timing belt. It wasn't, but it wouldn't start. I checked my fuel pressure and it was fine so I checked for fire and there was none. The DME relay was OK, the DME was getting power and putting power out to the coil, the coil had power but was not discharging. The tach needle doesn't bounce when I crank the motor. To me it sounds like the speed and reference sensors. Sound right to ya'll? Any other suggestions? I plan to check the sensors' voltage out put tomorrow just to be sure...but I am pretty sure this is the problem though. Do any of you guys have a set of speed and reference sensors you want to get ride of cheap if it turns out to be the sensors? If so shoot me a PM.

I would agree with the reference sensors.

Wiggle the connectors that are inbetween the intake manifold and the firewall. Could just be a bad connection. Either way, might be a good idea to replace them.
|
Checking the connection of the reference sensors had been sujested to me by another pelicanite as well....in retrospect I remeber something being goofed up there with the clip before I knew what the connections were for. This could very well be the problem. I'll check it late this evening and let you guys know.

Looked into the reference sensors tonight. That was the culprit. The connection was loose along the firewall as had been predicted by a couple of fellow pelicans. Ahhh, free fixes are the best! Thanks for your help guys.
|
That was the culprit for me too. Unfortunately for me, the connector crumbled into plastic pieces when I wiggled one of them. I will be ordering a new sensor soon.
Glad to hear that you solved your problem... :) |
Ok, I replaced the reference sensor tonight. Car still does not start. DME and relay have been checked, fuel pump is working.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. thanks |
Check the coil. Do you have power to the coil? If you do is the coil any good? there is a test for the coil. i don't remeber it right off, but there is one out there.
|
Thanks, I just looked that up on clarkes garage. I'll give it a try this weekend.
|
Ok, hope you have some luck there. Nothin like a no start situation. Did you check both of your connections on the reference sensors or just one? I know both my sensors connection was bad.
|
Yeah, I checked both. Fortunately only one was bad. The signal was good on the other one.
