grommets and spacers and screws, oh my
So I placed an order with Pelican last night... all the stuff to finish my rear wiper install. Well I got a whole mess of emails waiting for me when I got home from work today, most of the stuff is NLA. Looks like the *spacers* are still available which is really the only thing I can't acceptably replicate (and those I could if I had dimensions - I'm doing this from scratch because my car never had a rear wiper.) grommets I can fudge. Question: on an '88 944 with the two screws at the bottom of the hatch to mount the wiper motor, what are the heads of the screws supposed to be? Phillips pan heads?
thanks, nate

Does an 88 mount different than a 87? Mine (87) has a sort of heavy steel wire bracket that sticks thru the back edge of the hatch frame in a couple of places and the only solid mount is the nut surrounding the actual wiper shaft. There's a picture from the tech pages.

The two little stick shaped things by "9" in the picture poke slightly thru the lower back edge of the hatch frame.

yes, in '88 they changed the hatch and the plate, the hatch has two tabs sticking out with 6mm nuts welded on them, the plate just has two holes in it instead of the two sticks to which you refer. there's rubber bushings and spacers that go in the holes in the plate and then two 6mm screws or bolts that go into the hatch, the last is what I was asking about. I know it's retarded to worry about it but being used to working on much older/more valuable cars i tend to try to use the factory correct hardware whenever I can to avoid authenticity issues.
Now if you think about the odds of my car ever being judged in a car show, you'll realize just how sick I am. nate

Nate,
I was going to respond to you because I didn't understand why/where the need of (2) screws. After looking at my Porsche Technical and Parts manual, I see where the rear wiper was changed in 1988. I have the older design. The updated version looks more robust. My guess is phillips head screws. I don't think I have seen a slotted head screw on my car. It is usually hex, Allen or phillips head screws. These are common in machinery. To tell the truth, I would use the factory correct hardware. I'm a little anal too.
