I have heard a couple different versions of the rumors:

1) DMC will be building cars from refurbished or never-used original parts
2) DMC will be using the original dyes to build fresh editions of the original car (with new electronics and probably a different drivetrain)
3) DMC will be building an all-new car based on the original car's styling, in the same way that the new Mustang and 08 Camaro are based on their 1960s counterparts.

I would be willing to bet that none of these happen; I remember DeLorean trying to make a comeback back in the late 1990s, complete with design sketches for a new sports car, a sedan, and an SUV.

i read an entire article recently. they have a large stockpile of parts, enough to make about 500 cars. the company has been refurbishing deloreans for years for existing owners. they are going to be making two cars a year for about $55K.

Panzer909 08-24-2007 08:37 AM

If its only refurbished DeLoreans, this is nothing new. I visited that place in Houston (I have family there) in the late '90s and you could buy a "new" one then.

.................But they were only about $36,000 then and it WASN'T that long ago.

nynor 08-24-2007 09:47 AM

no, not just refurbished. they are going to be building new ones, two per year, from old stock parts and i believe they have the dies, etc, to make new body panels.

So next year after Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, who else is going to buy a DeLorean?

nynor 08-24-2007 12:36 PM

i bet they have takers lined up out the door.

I wonder if it'll be a pavement scorcher like the original?

0-60 in 10.5, hold on to your hats folks :p

CJFusco 08-24-2007 02:54 PM

For a car a month or so, they WILL have plenty of takers. DeLoreans ARE collectibles now, and even if they sit in some rich jerk's collection, there will be a demand for them.

Eldorado 08-24-2007 09:00 PM

agreed...
and i think it's about 1 or two per month they're shooting for... which is a total downer..
but each car will be hand built...

wonder if it comes with a Mr. Fusion.
