Does the tach bounce while you are cranking the starter?

Speedy:)

Hi, are you getting spark to plugs and fuel to injectors?

depuyb 08-24-2007 05:30 PM

the tach wont move and its not geting a spark to the plugs and injectors.

Clark's Garage has a good write up on checking the resistance of the Speed and Reference sensor. It's easy if you have a multi-meter or ohm-meter.
Since the Tach doesn't bounce, it could be a reference sensor problem.

Hi, maybe try using a known good DME relay and maybe a DME as well and see if you get spark then?

If the tach doesn't bounce it sounds kinda like the reference sensors to me. I had a simillar experience where I had fuel and no spark. Turned out the connection on the refference sensors was bad. Check that connection...maybe you'll get lucky.

Yeah check the connections for the speed and referance sensor coming from next to the firewall... Then ifthat dowsn't work go to clarks and start testing it with a multimeter...

thanks ill give that a try

I'm not sure the "tach bouncing" thing is necessarily an indicator; my tach doesn't register when cranking and my car runs fine.

Incidentally, one thing I've noticed is that no matter how well tuned the engine is, when starting the car the engine always cranks for a second of two before the engine fires up. I assume that this is intentional to help the engine build oil pressure before it goes under load?
