heat wont turn off

A couple of days ago I turned on max defrost by pushing up the central defrots slide button. When I pulled it back down the heat stayed on. Now I have heat all the time.
Any body have any ideas about what went wrong.
Thanks
George

On the drivers side to the right of the steering wheel there is a little cover that is held on by 2 screws. Remove the cover and see the little clip that is broken. That is the part you need to replace. Ever notice this never happens during the winter?

Looked for the cover you were talking about but cant find it. This is a '86 turbo is the cover down low on dash or all the under.
Thanks
George

It's a liitle white plastic clip that holds a small steel rod.

Stick your head under the dash, and look for small rod hanging doing nothing. If you put the rod next to the broken clip and push, the heat problem goes away until you let go.

Hard to explain without pictures. If you stick your head under the dash, it's somewhat self-explanitory.
