How much for a paint job? NYC area

hi,
my son-in-law promised me a paint job for my 944. what would it run to change the color from the black to a dark red? I live in westchester so NJ CT and south NY would be close enough. any place suggestions?

Your question is really hard to answer. If you paid for good paint, materials alone could cost you upwards to $500. Paint through ebay might be close to $100. Doing a color change is the next deal, how thorough are you wanting it to be? You could probably do all the prep work yourself and pay Maaco $300 to spray it for you, or you can find a good shop that specializes in custom jobs and pay closer to $6000 for it.

So, an estimate?

$100 - $6000.

We didn't even mention whether or not you needed body work of any kind.

jack,
you are right!
what i was hoping for was a number but it is like asking what should i eat or wear..
would $3000 get me a good paint job if i do most of the preping and only slight body work needs to be done. i don't mean Maco. someone out here in pelicanland knows a great shop in my area that would do a very nice paint job for.....

thanks again,
ernest

if you just want the visible parts of the car painted, it'll be much less than if you want the door jambs, engine bay, under rear carpet, and all body panel edges painted.

Painting door jams, engine bay, etc can add an additional $1g to the painting price. If you are changing the color, I don't think you have a choice but to paint the jams.

you have an option of taking a rattle can to the door areas and visible parts of the engine bay...
who really looks close at those places anyway?

DW215, do you have some photos of your car's paint job? I will do a search and hope to find them and also will track Randi down.
