Aftermarket pistons for an NA???
Does anyone know who makes aftermarket pistons for a 944na? It seems the only aftermarket pistons available are for 951s. JE used to make them but now they don't list them anymore.

If you want higher compression you could always get a set of Euro pistons. They should help bump up the HP to 160-165.

arman, Just look for a used 88 block or pistons, They shouldnt be to hard to find, I got a nice set of 88 10.2CR used last year for about $300, You just gotta make sure you got the right tolerance group

I would like to find a set of 88s but I've always found them hard to locate. I'm also worried about buying used pistons.

OK after some research, I discovered 944s (na) came with 3 differtent 100mm pistons;
9.7:1 83-87 10.2:1 88 10.6:1 ROW I always thought there were only 2 and the 88s were the same as the ROW. My next question is how do I know the difference between the 88s and ROW? I imagine they are both flat tops??? Does anyone have any pictures?

You are correct there are 3 different types, 4 if you count turbo pistons. The Euro 10.6Cr are almost totaly flat on the top.
The 88 pistons, look like this ![]() Again you need to make sure the pistons you get are in the right tolerance group as your orignal pistons eather 0, 1 or 2, It will be marked on the top of the piston

Would 928 pistons fit in a 944 block? Here's some 11:1 CR 928 pistons.

Actually, I think those pistons are for the 32v 928, which is probably much closer to the 944S, which has 10.9:1 CR pistons. The 944S (and quite possibly the 32v V8 that those pistons are for) does have a 100mm bore...I wonder if swapping S pistons into a 8v is possible? The valve detents probably won't line up with an 8v head. But then again, there aren't actually any detents on those aftermarket pistons. It would be cool, though...get 11:1 pistons and shave the head for like 12.6:1!
(I always dream of crazy custom engine work that's not really worth it, except to have fun doing it...)As far as the 97mm bore goes, there were a bunch of different 928 motors, and the 4.7L is probably the one with that bore. There was a real 5.0L block, but I don't know if it was just stroked or something. One thing I'm wondering is what is the difference between the ROW 10.6:1 CR pistons and the 88 10.2:1 CR pistons? Is the circular indent completely flat on ROW pistons, or what? How could one spot them?

Hmmm, never thought about that before...
Depending on the tolerance group, the PET does show 100mm pistons made during 928 MY '87-'95. I have no idea on the CR though. The PET doesn't show that info. Maybe somebody with a 928 FSM can look it up for us??
Why on earth has this piqued my interest???

Yea the EURO psitons with the 10.6 CR have a very small indent (like the size of a dime) in the middle, while the 10.2 look like the pic above
