944 superchager?

Has anyone installed a superchager on a 944 N/A?

ive really been thinking about that too. ive found some good deals on original turbo chargers. would i ruin your pistons or anything cause of the fact that they are 22 years old? and how much would the installation be if i couldnt do it myself..

it wouldnt ruin your pistons, but ive freshened up the top end and im doing the rod bearings. its not going to put any more stress on the pistons or rods than what it already takes everyday

it will put more stress on the pistons but maybe not the rods. anything that makes more power will put more stress on the pistons.

i am new to the porshe stuff but typicly the bigest load on the rods is from rpm's. often on a boosted motor you dont spin it as high and the peek load(high rpms on the exhaust stroke) is reduced.

pistons are another thing. more power means more stress. i am an ls1 guy. a stock ls1 piston will take well over 100% more power for a very long time. i think 50% more max power is a more realistic number for most pistons. no idea what a 944na piston will take. bigest thing is tuning. i have seen a few guys break a stock ls1 piston at 5psi by letting it detonate and others can run 15-20psi for years.

tuning is prety important with a boosted motor. especialy if your trying to get stock cast pistons to live. just a few seconds of knock and the pistons will break like glass. does a na 944 have cast pistons or something better?

i would like to boost the 944 i just got but i would have to start by fixing my low compresion problem.

It has been done, and yes the movement is growing. I too am collecting parts to do this myself. I think I can do it for under $1000. Easiest way to do it is to use an AC delete bracket and move the alternator down. This opens up a lot of space.
