Porsche Immobilizer problem
Does anyone have any experience with the Porsche immobilizer fitted to the 1988 2.7 ? It's the type with a little fob that you touch into a slot mounted on the steering column cowel before you can start the car.
My wife's immobilizer has gone all wonky. It's permanently letting out a low pitched whine that doesn't go when you put the fob in the slot. The car will turn over but won't catch. Looking through the original owner's paperwork he has obviously had trouble with the system before because he has a Porsche bill for what's called a receptical - part number P999.999.795.30 I was wondering if this is a common fault with the standard system and if anyone knew how to either get around the problem or, better, fix it. Cheers.

I've got one on mine.
no problems. though I would say a few things IN the dead of summer I had starting problems was traced to the fact that the immobiliser was fitted under the seat and burried under carpet. I would do this first 1> Dont "think" it is on a fuse though you can check, but I would pull the Battery neg lead and leave for 30seconds then reconnect 3> Remove the passenger seat and inspect the box, for connections and good earthing 2> clean the fob and inspect, the metal contacts wear so "might" be worth getting a new one (Porsche only and you need to give them old one to code the new one) Quote:
