Stupid decision.......16" tires

Boy did I make a bad decision buying 16" wheels! Almost impossible to find 4 used in decent shape! Why is it wheels/tires get obsolete in short order? Planned obsolesence I bet. And it makes no sense other than looks, 16" in a aspect ratio higher than a 17" in a lower one is still the same circumfrence for the most part. And on a 924S it is even harder to find a tire because of the limitations it has vs. the 944.

I have half a mind to send my BBS's back and make them send me a 17" to replace them so I can find tires and have wheels to fit the 924S!!

Before I went to 17", I looked into replacing tires using my 15" cookie cutters. The problem is there are very few tire choices to pick from. As the auto industry is going to larger tire diameters, they are reducing the number tires. Going to 17's, I had many brands and tire types to choose from. I settled on Bridgestone Pole Position tires.

Good luck

Dal - are you trying to select street or track tires??

I have 16's on my 931 DD, and have been very happy with a set of Sumitomos I got maybe a year or two ago from tirerack.

Jim....I have 2 sets now and would need to dump both to go 17"'s. Just not in the cards for me now but a good suggestion never the less.

Vaughan....Both but for now street, no need at the moment for race tires, unless we open up a ice racing series here. That I can do, plenty of ice racing studs from my 2 wheel days.

I want to remove the dials so I can get them refinished and use the BBS's in the meantime. My other issue is brand and heard little about Sumitomos, but if you like them I may have a go at them. My RA1's/Hoosiers are only up for practice so new track tires are on my to buy list.

You referring to track or race on the Sumitomos?

Thanks!

The Sumi's are, for me, street only - I have the HTR+'s IIRC. I was looking for a comfortable tire for good dry and wet performance, OK in the snow (not crap), better ride than the BFG Comp TA KDWS's I took off (stiff and loud). I don't think I'd be very thrilled with them on track, though - need a higher-performance tire. But I would feel comfortable with recommending the Sumi's, though...

205 is TOO NARROW for an 8" wheel. 225/245 work best.

Yeah, that sounds absurdly narrow - it's the stock size for the original 16x6's I have...

Also, I've NEVER heard anyone talk about how good their Conti's are, nevermind that they're Bosch's competition!

That is what I thought just not sure......I have a set of Conti on now and never an issue, but that does not mean squat really. Thanks!
