I'm sure that many of the products out there would work - like the roofing felt mentioned. But, the issue that may occur is the adheasive - several times, I have used non-automotive stuff (like felt pads to keep my sunroof deflector from rattling) but in the summer heat, the adheasive got sticky and peeled off.

that's one of the reasons i like the dynamat extreme - sticks REALLY well
