Pre 85.5 944 heat stuck on.
I've heard of a lot of 944's that blow hot air, even with the heater knob in the 'off' position. I'm aware of the clip that breaks off and can be easily or cheaply replaced.
But all of the information that is shown on clarks-garage.com to fix the problem, seems aimed at the 85.5 or later models. I've got an '83, and unless I'm missing something, I'm wondering if there is a different method of solving this problem? Thanks for any insight. |

If it is the blower switch the part is about $20 and takes but 30 min to put in. I just did mine on my '83 because the fan would only work if I pushed on the knob.

Hi, my 83 did the same thing. My bottom slider was broken so I opened the hood and manually closed the valve that feeds the heater core. It is a black plastic part that is on the passenger side up near the firewall under the engine kinda. Kinda hard to find. I would go to a parts source and look at a photo of the shut off valve so you know what you are looking for. My car still likes to put out the heat though running on the highway for a period of time so I also closed off some ares down by my feet to keep the heat up higher. These aluminum motors sure like to radiate heat.

Similar problem... the plastic part likes to rub against the firewall and not go back to cool when I move the lever. Something tells me that rotating the valve will be all kinds of fun.
