Clutch Bleeding...How much more does it want??
 

New master cylinder installed.
New Slave cylinder installed a few months ago.
New blue hose from reservoir to master cylinder.

Master cylinder had failed and I had to do a complete replacement. After a week of fighting, it's in.

I'm attemping to bleed the clutch system.

• Drained the old fluid from the reservoir.
• Topped it off with new fluid.
• Pedal goes to the floor, obviously.
• Been doing the method of clutch down, open bleeder on slave, close bleeder, pull up clutch (topping the reservoir every 3 or 4 times) all day. There are no signs that the clutch is getting any stiffer. Been through 1.5 pints of brake fluid so far.
• Fluid comes out of the bleed valve smoothly without any noticable air bubbling.

How much more should I expect to have to do this? First time bleeder here.

I use the Motive Power bleeder with good results. Others guys here recomend jacking up the rear of the car to bleed. Hopefully they chime in...

Either lift the rear so you can fill the resevoir properly or get a motive. I've tried every other way and those were the only 2 that got me a stiff pedal.

i think your method is wrong, unless i misunderstood.

as the pedal is travelling down, open the valve... and close it before it gets to the floor.
lift pedal
repeat.

you wanna open and close that valve *as the pedal is moving*.

What's the difference between closing the bleeder when the pedal is going down, and completely down?

it lessens the chance of trapping air in the system

you want to close the valve as there's positive pressure in the system.

tip: jack the rear of the car up as high as possible when doing this... make sure to put stop blocks behind the front wheels.

I've now done this four times on my car... 5 or 6 pedal pushes and it's solid.

I now get full liquid out of the bleeder valve but I still have no pedal pressure. It goes to the floor without any hesitation at all. What am I doing wrong????

Edit: clutch seems to be bled perfectly. opening the clutch fork viewport shows that the slave piston is not moving enough to push the pressure plate away. it's traveling (pushing the fork) only about 1/8th of an inch in, and retracting the same amount. New slave though. Fork seems to be okay ( no cracks etc). The slave rod is just not pushing far enough.

I cant' get the slave cylinder off!!! Stupid 2nd bolt will NOT budge. Other one came off just fine though, of course.
