IS there such a thing as Too Much Fuel Pressure?

I waondering if anyone had any problems with too much fuel pressure? I am having battery issues with my car, and when I popped the hood today, I noticed the #1 Injector leaking at the bottom seal. I just replaced the seals about 6 months ago, and have had no problems till today. Got home and let the engine cool down, was going to pop the rail to see if I cut the O-Ring or what when I installed it. When I broke the line to let the excess out, there was a LOT of pressure behind the ful in there. Last time I broke the lines loose to change the O-Rings there was not that much pressure. This just started today, this weekend. I don't have the guage to check to see what the pressure is, so any suggestions? Thanks Mike

Hey Mike,

Absolutely there can be too much pressure. Otherwise there would be no reason to put the fuel pressure regulators on there as they certainly can't raise pressure only step it down. Is that what caused the injector seal to leak...not sure I understand where the injector is leaking specifically but if it's the seal where the injector seals to the head, then too much pressure probably didn't cause that one. If it's the seal where the fuel rail seals to the injector.certainly could cause that one to leak.

Pull the vacuum lines off the regulator and dampner and see if there is any gas in those lines. If so, then they are bad and need replaced. Then make sure the vacuum lines going to them are in good shape and are connected to the right location. Either of those will also cause high pressure.

The leak is at teh first one, at the base that goes into the cyl. Took it apart and nothing wrong with the O-Ring and everything looks clean in the hole itself. None of the other injectors are leaking, just that one. When I first got the car, that one was leaking, so I bought 4 seal kits and replaced all of them at once, never had a problem till now. Going to try a few things and see, I know now that the pressure is good, from what you told me to look for, the lines have no fuel in them and the lines are good, and itis leaking at the base not the top. Cool on that note. Mike

Well, got it back together, made sure everything was clean and started it up. No leaks as of yet. I let it run for a few mins and everything looked good. I guess I will know when I go to work! No if I can just get the starting issue taken care of!

This isn't an area where you really want to mess around or guess at. Take my word on that one. Imagine hot exhaust and gas.....not a good combination.

You might want to send your injectors off to Witch Hunter to have them tested, cleaned and new seals. If one is leaking they will sell you one for $25. New orings wont fix a leaky injector. I think it's only $15 to test/clean each injector, but could be wrong.
