Strut Question

Is there anyway to identify the make of a strut insert? The right one is my stock 87 and the left was in my 86 im parting.
Thanks in advance, the struts are for sale (both sets)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200957695.jpg

My guess (and this is just a guess) is that they are both Boge. Boge struts came if both black and blue and I see some blue on your struts. Koni's are yellow or red. Also, both of your struts have the removable cartridges and I believe the Koni's only had a permenant (non-replaceable) insert.

Tidy is partialy correct.

struts up to the 86 had inserts. 87 and all after have sealed struts. the one on the right looks like the 86 strut.

The other way to tell is to measure where the strut attaches to the caliper. There is a difference in the opening. 87 and up had a smaller opening, where up to the 86 the opening was larger. I can measure when i get home tonight if you need to know which is which.

87 and up struts will not fit on an earlier car cause of this opening. But I've never heard of anyone putting an early strut in a late car, should be possible though.

For replacement of the late struts, Koni has a cut & drill process which is easy to do.

The left is the sealed 87 and its NOT a koni since it would be yellow. The right is the threaded and most likely HAS the koni inserts unless someone changed it. The blue tape is what they used when they came from the factory with konis. Any factory koni after 20 years is pretty much useless anyways.
