looking for an 81 or 82 931

Hey guys,
Being Porscheless is taking its toll on me... lol. I've been thinking of delving into the 931 territory. I'm looking for either an 82 or 81 under $1500. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

hey.. any reason for 81 or 82..?? I do have one and wondering why that perticular year..?? what so good about it..??

mr. dude 01-28-2008 09:11 AM

Quoted from an article I read....

"Intense heat in the engine bay lead to short turbocharger life and turbo-related seal and seat problems. To fix the problems, Porsche released a revised 924 Turbo series 2 (although badging still read 924 Turbo) in 1981. By using a smaller turbocharger running at increased boost, slightly higher compression of 8:1 and an improved fuel injection system with DITC ignition triggered by the flywheel, reliability improved and power rose to 177 hp (132 kW)."

Hey Mr. Dude!

I know that one of the guys in our local PCA has an old 931. He said it was running several years ago but hasn't started it since. It is obviously in some sort of disrepair. The car is located here just outside the Socal desert and I know he was asking more than $2000. However, he is a front engine guy and really wants it to go to a 'good home.' Let me know if you are into a bit of a project and I will pass you his contact info.

Hey man,
Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking for something a little closer to home though. As I'm not sure how much it would cost to have it shipped to Michigan. Thanks again though, I appreciate it.:)

Shoot, there was a white '81 on Ebay about a month ago I was kicking around, sold for like 900 and it looked clean. If I recall is was in Muskegon. There is an '80 here in Cleveland (craigslist) for 1200 that needs some fuel inj. work if that interests you, no afil. Good luck!

Doh, that white one would have been perfect! I did see that silver one in Cleveland your talking about, still would like to get an S2 model though. Thanks for the reply.

You might also ask around on 924board.org; though I didn't see any listed in the area recently, you might stir up a few more if you shake the bushes... too bad, 'cause I just sold one last Sept... :D

Best of luck!

mr. dude 02-01-2008 11:20 AM

Yeah, I've checked there a few times and like you said there isn't much for sale there right now.

How did you make out on the offer?
What do you think it is worth based on the write up?

Just joined and was reading this forum. Purchased the Cleveland Craigslist 931. Great car. Guy had installed new fuel line and filter. Never sealed any threads and had filter reversed. Also had huge vacuum leak. After those fixes, I installed the new plugs, cap and rotor that came with the car. Runs perfectly...great boost out of turbo. According to VIN was the 505th built for 1980 (July 1979)

Hey guys just popping in to say thanks for all of the help! I ended up buying a 1981 red 931 in great shape. I spent more than I was looking to spend, but the car is definately worth it!!! The guy has it in a heated garage so he's storing it for me untill spring when the weather clears. I'll be sure to take pics when I go to pick it up.
