Safe(ty) belts

Fellow 944 owners. How do I do to get my belts in drivers seat an passengers seat to roll back into its holder somwere in the car smooth as they were new.
Now they are sticking and noisy when returning into its holder. Guess those flat coiled return springs are dirty or dry and need lubricating, but how do I do that?
Will appreciate any suggestions from you.

You may just might be better to get a set from a parts vendor(salvage/used). Usually when the spring return gets worn this issue happens, much like a draw style window blinds. The catch also gets worn to hold the belt in a particular length. If a good cleaning does not do it it would be just as easy to find a replacement, if fact take less time to remove and install than to clean and work the bugs out if possible at this stage. Belts are a dime a dozen here, many to buy from racers/scrappers.

The other concern is the old belt may not "catch" in the case of a accident and not hold you close to the seatback, meaning the belt would slip and allow the driver to lurch forward. My opinion is to replace it for this reason only at the least.

Thanks a lot guys! I better go and by new ones instead of trying to clean them. Perhaps I can find some more good looking than stock.
