Fresh Air Blower
The fresh air blower, the A/C and one of the cooling fans do not work. I have replaced all fuses and relays, including the one behind the glove box. and the blower motor switch. I seem to have power to the fuse box, but no power to the switch.
My son got the car about a year ago and all the fans worked for about 6 months. It is an '84 n/a. any ideas? |

The 86 944 NA I purchased with my son as a project can had a similar problem. Turns out the wire harness was "barely" (The plug on the end of the wire harness was barely touching the pins on the HVAC unit) plugged into the pins on the back of the HVAC control unit. Once we fully plugged the harness plug into the unit, everything started magically working again. You have to pull off the control knobs and slider knobs, GENTLY (experience tells me it breaks very easy) pry the cover off the front of the unit, remove the two screws at each side of the unit and, IIRC, the plug is at the rear driver's side of the unit. Make sure the plug is fully inserted onto its socket.
Also, from reading this and several other forums, the HVAC units themselves seem to be a weak spot after twenty years of so of use. The next step would be to pull the unit and try to troubleshoot individual components or simply replace the unit with new or known good used unit. jmd_forest
