Need some advice. Just found out I have a turbo block in a N/A car.
As stated above I recently found out after months of work putting this engine back together that it is a turbo block. The problem is that it is in a n/a car. What are my best options to get this car running? What kind of $$ am I looking at to buy all of the turbo parts? Would it be easier to swap in n/a pistons? I dumped alot of money buying new parts to get this running right and now this happens!!

well, if it has the NA pistons, you are ok. if not, you will need to change the engine out, change the pistons, or turbo/supercharge it. turbo/supercharging will cost you more than buying a 944 turbo, almost for sure.
what i am trying to figure out is how you put the engine back together and didn't know it was a turbo block and/or had turbo pistons. |
Well, the longblock was already assembled. The guy that I bought the car from was planning on putting in a LS1 so he was taking everything apart. The previous PO was the one that had been working on the engine.

hmm... it is possible that there are NA pistons in there, but i doubt it from your compression numbers. what a bummer. the upside is that you can sell it and get an NA motor for less money than you sell it for, most likely.

If I take the head off, how will I be able to tell if they are n/a or turbo pistons??

The shape of the piston tops is different.

i'd at least attempt peeking in the spark plug hole before you go to the trouble of pulling the head.
|
I will do that. I pray that I don't have to!

what's the difference in the actual block? anything?
|
block and crank are the same, the difference was pistons and heads. iirc the cam was the same too.

different durations on the cam.
