Exclamation Need Help Now! - Car at shop, need wheel hub! Where/Cost??

Apparently my horrible noise and things = the Wheel Hub.

It's the 'thing that goes through the center of the bearing, studs are attached to it, it holds the wheel on', is what I remember from the mechanic over the phone.

His parts guy doesn't have it, another parts person has it for ~$550, + shipping.

I need to know what the part # is, or what it's normally called. Not finding it on Pelican. The rears should be the same side to side.

The wheel bearing froze apparently and erroded the hub. =(

What are my options here? Help!

85/1 has the old style dashboard. probably easiest to just call the yard and if they are willing to check for you have them do that. Is the part number different for 85/1 and 85/2? I am at work so can't check PET now.

Crap!

Do the 85/1 and the 85/2 have the same rear wheel hubs?

Theirs is 85/1!! Are they the same?

I'm thinking no... but the catalog names don't help. The first = 82-85, the second = 85-88... ???

477 501 065 - 85/1 (in E_944_85_KATALOG.pdf)

in E_944_88_KATALOG.pf
951 331 067 00 -86
A 944 331 067 01 87-
944 331 067 01 87-

that says to me, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that the mid-85 break is probably when they changed from steel to aluminum trailing arms and therefore you need the later ones. I'm ASSuming the 951... part number. '87 is when the wheel offset changed to allow for ABS so that explains the different numbers for 87 on.

I believe that if you had an 85/1 you would look up your parts in the earlier catalog, and if you had an 85/2 you would use the later one.

I have a tendency to agree (I just spoke with a Porsche dealership too)...

The 'remarks' in the 944(2) catalog say -86 and have the 951 part #... crap. I guess I should fleabay it.

Thanks guys. I went with the latter two links (found already and sent emails because I need the part now, not in 2 days). I also found a pair of '86' ones that, after printing pic and brought to mechanic, he said they were mislabeled and were the old school ones. He showed me how mine (85.5) are flat, and the old ones are more 'volcano', and he's right. Damn ebay.

So getting the right one online from ebay, I hope. Waiting for email reply.

Mine =

Old/Volcano =

Payment sent.

So is the volcano LATE offset and the flatter = EARLY?

Would I have been okay with an 85/1 part? Because I found one locally (40 minutes), but part #s according to Porsche are DIFFERENT. I called Porsche dealer to discuss, they said stick with 951 part (good through 86), and that 85/1 had different (477 iirc, it's above).

I'd bet money the early part was actually a repurposed VW "Thing" hub. then as the design evolved Porsche had to modify the parts.

I disagree, because I know the VW Vanagon shares the same CVs, I'm thinking it came from there... =)

85 Vanagon = 85.5 944 CV as per partsamerica.

I just realized, I bet we're both wrong. I bet the *924* hub was a "Type 181" part then when the original 944 was introduced it was probably made Porsche specific when it was redrilled for 5-lug wheels.

More likely Audi. The axle stubs early are from Audi and think the hub is too.
