Amazing Results from MT fluid change
I was having some problems with my Transmission slipping and shuttering when I attempted to release the clutch and put any sort of throttle to the mix, in other words the only way I could get the car off the line in 1st gear smooth, was to really baby the clutch and throttle. And if I stopped at a stop sign or light and there was any sort of hill in front of me...forget it ! Good thing I don't live in San Francisco
Anyway inspected and had my transmission inspected, along with the CV joints by a friend of mine who ownes a couple of Porsches. He said everything looked good...I checked the Trans fluid and it looked clean...![]() I was pretty much out of ideas, I even replaced the trans mount...turns out the transmission fluid in the car was the problem, taking into consideration the car had a Jiffy Lube sticker on the window when I bought it, who knows what they changed the fluid with...? I filled the transmission as high as I could with 75w-90 Red Line and no more slipping or shuttering...amazing !!!

I did that once, filling the transaxle as high as it would go, it damaged the differential seals and slung tranny fluid all over the place.

Yes and no?!
"pour the new transaxle fluid into hose and into the transaxle until the fluid level is just below the bottom of the fill hole (6-8 mm). Personally, I fill to the bottom of the fill hole." The factory manuals said to fill to below the bottom of the hole. I only noticed that when looking for info on replacing the diff seals. When you said "I filled the transmission as high as I could", I had a vision of the car jacked up on the left side to tilt more fluid in.

No, I guess that is what I meant, I filled it to the top of the fill hole, or as high as I could go. I did the same thing with my BMW 5 series, as I tried to put the spec amount of fluid in the car and it bucked like a Bronco (the horse that it). Then I decided I would just fill the thing as high as I could and all was fine.
