2nd annual Lafayette Indiana Pelican gathering (planning stage)

Hey all, I'm starting to get plans together for another gathering this year

For anyone who didn't attend last year, Lafayette is located almost half way between Indianapolis and Chicago on I65.

At this point I am aiming for the 3rd or 4th weekend in August. This would put it around the same time as last year. Please add to this thread with input as to which weekend would be better for everyone.

Again we will have a cookout for lunches, the 3 b's (burgers, brats & beer)

I'm fully stocked on R-12 and R-134a refrigerants for A/C systems, and have set aside a new 15lb can of R-12 just for the gathering in case anyone needs A/C work done. As a bonus, my temporary spray booth is in place so if anyone needs touchup work done that's available. My lift is STILL on backorder from the manufacturer, but am assured that it will be in place by March, in plenty of time for the get together.

My P9201 has made its rounds across the country in the last year, but will be back here at home for belt tensioning.

As a side note, I have already contacted a couple of models (it's rough living across the river from a college ) that are exited about the get-together. I don't know about anyone else, but I think I need a couple of "grid-girl" photos with my cars!!

I am thinking of possibly having some t-shirts made for this year, but that is still in the works.

Last year was great, thank-you to everyone who attended!
Let's make this year even bigger and better!

-Nick

Nick,
I had a great time at your last party and will try to make it again this year. I will bring my P9201 along as well so we won't be in short supply. Hopfully it won't rain this time for 2 reasons.

1) it will be easier to cross Chicago when the interstates are NOT under water. 2) It would be nice to have the car washed up and detailed for the party.

In, of course.

My calendar is free the entire month of August right now. We'll see how long that lasts.

IT"S ON!!!

August 16&17
Provided the weather holds off, I have a nice drive planned for before dinner
I might have everybody kick in $10 or so this year to help pay for food and door prizes. And... the models are locked in for the weekend! There will be two young (over 18) ladies at the gathering Saturday afternoon for anyone who would like to have professional photos of their cars taken with them (Yes, wives and girl-friends looking over somebodies shoulder... they will be clothed

If anybody has input on what they would like added to the gathering, let me know!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year, and hopefully some new Pelicans that didn't make it last year!

I would like no rain that weekend unlike last time.

I would like the interstate through Chicago to not flood on our way there.

Last year the food, friends, and hospitality was great. We turned allot of wrenches, changed belts, tensioned belts and had a good time. I look forward to this years event.

GREAT NEWS!!
My lift is finally in stock, so as soon as I get a chance I will be heading down to Indy with the trailer to pick it up and install it

I am in the process of putting together a pile of freebies for everyone who makes it to the gathering, and have put together a list of parts I have in inventory that will be on hand in case someone shows up and didn't have a chance to bring something they needed:
cam/balance belts
accessory belts
cam tower gaskets
front and rear cam seals
balance shaft seals
Exhaust gaskets
spark plugs
updated water pump
thermostats
M104 motor mounts
rebuilt half shaft (non turbo)
front wheel bearings and seals
O2 sensors

I haven't entered all my stock into my computer yet, so there may be some other things sitting around that haven't been inventoried.

Can't wait to see everyone this year, here is a list of user-names that I have put on my notification list so far: speedracing944, jcommin, 8744turbo, legion, porschedaddy911, troyer, drball01, porschejeff95, wrecktech, juVius, Bags.

If you would like info PM'd to you as it becomes available and don't see your user-name, let me know and I will make sure to add it!

WOW Rick, I'm sure you'd win the contest for farthest distance driven

By all means, if you are available, come on down!

::edit:: I almost forgot, there may be a couple of 968s here this year as well. I just bumped into a local fellow at lunch who had brought his 968 out of storage to enjoy the weather. He is not currently here on Pelican, but I informed him of the gathering and gave him info on the BBS.

My mom's girlfriend lives in Lafayette...@ 10-11 hour drive IIRC. Not too far.

Since my wife is heading to Cuba with her girlfriend next month... maybe hubby should get some man time?

We'll see. Keep me posted!

ps...my dad has a '66 Fairlane 500 convertible...he's ordered new door sill covers and a new canvas top. Fun car! (saw your 55 fairlane in sig)

Well crap!
Unfortunately the Mid-Ohio DE event IS the same weekend as the sheduled gathering here in Indiana

For everyone who is interested in attending the gathering here at my shop, please let me know via PM if you would like me to look into changing the weekend so it is NOT the same as the Mid-Ohio gathering. I will post back by the middle of next week if I end up changing the dates, but at this point the gathering here is still schedule for August 16th and 17th.

Thanks,
Nick

Well, the 9th I'm going to Road America for ALMS and the 18th I'm headed to Mackinac Island, MI.

The 16th/17th still works for me.
