S2 rear pads

Hi a few months i thought id check the rear pads on my S2 ,which involved gettin them out of the calipers

Anyway to my dismay i really had to work hard on to get them out .I had to use a pair of vice grips and a hammer in the end working like mad

Hello i thought somethings not right here ,if there that tight in the caliper there no way that they will be realiseing properly ,which must of been causing them to bind

So i filled a bit off the edge of each pad so they could move about nice and free

Anyway been gettin a horrible rattling when i go over bumps ,couldnt for the life of me find out what it was until tonight

To put it simply its a pad rattling about in the caliper {maybe i took to much off or maybe they should be tight in the caliper}

Anybody else come across the same problem ?i have seen anti rattle shims on ebay mine doesnt have them .Should it ?mines an 89 model

The pads had PARIGON or Pagid printed on them cant remember which unless i take them back out ,they also had like 2 blobs of weld on the edges that was causing then to tight in the caliper .It was the welds that i filled down

Sound like the caliper piston has seized and the pads are now loose. This explains maybe why there were stack in the caliper in the first place.

No they were stuck in the caliper because they were so tight in the caliper ,i had already backed the piston off and they were still well tight

I think you will find that the calipers have steel plates where the pads fit, and often corrosion sets in between the plates and alloy caliper and reduces the width, making the pads tight, if you file the pads chances are they are now too loose. The plates can be removed and cleaned but the fixing screws are a pain.

The same thing happen to my front calipers from corrosion. I took them all apart to have them repaired...I forgot how they do it...something to do with copper. Anyway I said forget it and picked up a pair of Brembos from a recycler. I think they were 100 USD each, near mint and I was lucky enough to get them with almost new Porsche OEM pads . Bottom line, if you have to file the backs of the pads...bad bad. Might as well get some used calipers and start fresh...I learned the hard way after filing 2 sets of pads
