I wonder what the car would look like if, instead of using the reflector as a reflector, you painted it the same color as the car to fill up the 'hole' there.

I don't care for them, or the angled exhaust, but my wife likes them.

This has been done by adding a bit of sheetmetal. it effectively makes it similiar in concept to the back of a 968

I believe it was a dealer option in the US, not one from the factory.

can you guys get euro-style plates? we can (for a premium) here in NZ. They fit the licence plate gap between the tail lights perfectly and makes it look complete.

I believe all license plates in the US have to be a certain height and width, and there are no exceptions. Otherwise, a Euro-style plate might look even better.

And the exhaust came angled when I got it. I had no idea it shouldn't be...

In some states you can get Euro style plates, but only on the front.

I was wondering about the lighted license plate thing too. Do you guys with the insert have some kind of aftermarket frame, or does it not matter where you are?

And here in PA, we *have* to have lit license plates at night, and during they day, they need to be visible too (no covers etc). I bought one of these (from: Hardcore Lighting to comply with the law:

I'm going to have to wire it through the bumper to the previous plate lights. It should run fine on the 12v source with the headlights. It might be a little too bright though. Better safe than ticketed.

I know it's a relatively cheaper part but if you don't have the sticker there's no branding on the back. I'm not in it for resale value and I kind of like the PORSCHE block letters. Not like it's an inconspicuous car already, but it's nice to have make & model displayed.

On black or grey it looks more natural but on red or *cough*yellow*cough* it looks a little funny with a gap between the black rubber bumpers, like something's missing. I may be a little partial but I feel the rear is more balanced with a lower plate. Turbo valance doesn't hurt either.

Slam, my wife really likes it too. I think it's because it announces "Porsche". It's not like the average guy doesn't know this isn't a current $50k sports car; at the least they'd think it's a very valuable classic. When I first moved to the area I had a neighbor pop by and ask if it was new! It's a f***in Porsche, let everyone know it ;P

Yeah, I do believe so. Mine has the wires hanging down below the plate - there must have been a light on it at one time or another - I've just never gotten around to putting one on.

We have reflectorized plates up here, so it's really kinda tough to tell if a plate is lit or not - at least if you're in back of a car with your lights on (my good luck!)...

PXJ800: There is the sticker that says PORSCHE across the back of the 944's. You don't have it on your's, but it came on every car from the factory. So most of the cars do have it.

Also in general, some people have said how they think it is a better location on the bumper... I personally think it is awkward how it hangs down back the bottom of the bumper. Also, between the taillight lenses is centered in the back of the car and it mounts flush with the lenses...

I've got a '944' badge on mine...

i'm not sure if it's supposed to come this way or not, but mine has lights on the inside, 4 of them, that light up with the rest of the lights on the back of the car when the headlights are on... it's not a bright light, but it's subtile, and i love the way it looks at night....

I'm not big on the reflector either. IMO it looks worse at night. The license plate looks pasted on as 'there is no where else to put it except in the center of the bumper'. There are no lights for the plate, which is a IL State law.

I have the PORSCHE reflector on my S2...got it that way and it's grown on me. Car does not have the sticker across the lower back so there's no redundancy....I think it makes for a cleaner look although when I had my previous 944 without one, I never liked em....go figure.

No reflector, no Porsche written along the back.

(I wouldn't have bought it if it had either)

Just my opinion

Sticker needs to be replaced also.

If you are going to leave the lens remove and leave off the sticker (IMHO)

or

remove the lens and replace the sticker. Both is too much.
