front struts replace

before I tear into replacing these front struts(I'll probably just put new inserts in them)...are there any parts in there that typically will also need replacing????....rubber stop, concave washer, sealing ring, brg flange, strut mount,.....etc. the car is an '83 944..with only 66000 miles...probably never been changed...thanks

there were some foam type of gaskets between the strut and the body that will deteriorate, Bump stops.

thats all I can think of.

If the strut mounts are tight and nothing looks chewed up just do the inserts. It's very easy on an 83. I did mine on the car without removing the strut, no spring compressors, or messing up the alignment. Others will say it 's unsafe to use the weight of the car to compress the springs but many, many people do it this way without any issues I know of. Takes less than 20 minutes a side. Loosen the cap at the top of the strut tube first before loosening the top nut on the shaft.

In addition to what has been said, take a look at the top bearings.

There have been many posts with pictures on how to, either by leaving them in the car or taking them out completly. Either is fine. I took mine out completly. I went a little nuts, cleaned everything up, painted, replaced what I needed and went with new springs too.

+1 to 2tight. . .safer than a compressor, IMO.
