Cruise control issue
 

How is the cruise control supposed to work? When I first got the car, it seemed to only work(stay on) in 5th gear, but it seemed to operate normal. Now, it doesn't seem to 'set' correctly(car accelerates after being set), but works in other gears too. This change took place after I did the venturi delete and had the intake off, so the cable was taken off the unit at that time. I had to adjust the throttle cable and the cruise cable to the extremes of the range, so I'm thinking the cables moved on the other end. Where is this other end, and do you think that's the problem?

I'm on my mobile device so I can't link u. But do a search under my user name and key word cruise control. You'll find a write up I did to fix this problem. It's an easy fix. U just need to remove the servo unit and clean the wiper strip and contacts. This is a very common problem.

Thanks for the info EMB. I went for a couple hour drive yesterday and the think worked perfect. Reading the other posts, it sounds like it goes from working, to working sometimes, then finally failing completely. Think I'll just fix it now before it goes out..

Cleaning the servo is a good first step. If the problem continues, it may be the cruise control computer is the culprit. It is located under the dash by the clutch pedal. They are prone to loose conections on the circut board. Careful examination will often find several cracked or loose connections and a quick resoldering will solve the problem. My cruise started with symptoms as you describe and then just quit working completely. I did the servo thing first since it is easier to do but ended up resoldering my computer board and it's been working fine since.
