Thanks

Same problem here, when i got the car after driving it close to 100 miles home found out there was no tension on the timing belt and no power steering fluid. The leak doesn't seem to be coming from the pump. I tried some power steering fluid with anti leak but it didn't help much. Haven't been able to find the leak on my 944 because I'm in the the process of replacing belts and the water pump. Are there any ways to check if its actually the pump or the hoses?

Step One..
Place rags or pan underneath PS boots
Step Two.
Slide PS boots off of rack side. Did a lot of fluid spill out? If yes procede.
Step Three.
Follow www.Clarks-Garage.com extremely well written chapter on PS rack replacement.
Step Four
Replace tie rod ends if rubber is cracked

Or, you can buy my manual rack conversion!

Sorry to steal the thread, but I just removed the manual steering rack from my 95 968, and put it up for sale...

E-mail me at flamthrowr@aol.com if interested.

Well, I just bought all 4 power steering lines and replaced them. Cheap, no, but I do not have any leaks. They were about $450.00 in total. Plus I upgraded to hex banjo bolts for the ps rack. from what I have read this happens frequently. Someone told me that NAPA (or similar shop) can replace just the hoses. Might be $worth it...

I hope you replaced the reservoir as well. The filter clogs over time and should be replaced--about $20

put some uv dye into the ps reservoir. i doubt it'd hurt the ps pump or rack but it'd show up clear as day where it's leaking out from

after you clean with simple green or...brakleen you can use like a powder spray or like baby powder...if theres a leak it will absorb it and make it wet looking...helps if you don't have a uv light. I used this to find the oil leak on my friends car
