94 bmw 540 power seats

I have a 94 BMW 540 i, when i try and move the passenger front seat and use the switch to move the back of the seat forward or back, only one side moves. Needless to say it is only level in one position. The motor works fine, any suggestions on what it might be or how to check it.

It's not the base of the seat, but the back that's giving me the problem. my guess is that it could be in the gear on the right side, but not sure how the mechanics work on the electric seats.

Thomas, I would suggest posting this question in the BMW areas of this site. I think you'll have better luck there than you will by posting it in the Porsche 944/924/968 forums since the 924/944/968 cars really don't have any parts commonality with a '94 BMW.

That said, on my Volvo, the power seat back is controlled by a motor under the seat that uses a cable to operate the tilt. If the cable snaps, it's a royal pain to replace and usually results in replacing the entire seat. If your BMW is similar, it might be problematic.

Aaron
