Has anyone ever painted phonedials a color other than silver?

Just curious what they might look if they were black or someother color. Thanks :D

My buddy has a red old school 928 w/ black phone dials, it's actually pretty sweet.

I still think your sewer lids look better than phone dials though...

BTW, shouldn't you be working on your water pump? :p (JK, I know you are saving your coins-good luck)

These are my wheels. Painted with Duplicolor Graphite rattle can wheel paint. They look better when they're cleaned up. Actually, the whole car looks better cleaned up. :D

totally...i think if i did get phone dials they'd have to be painted...not the biggest fan of them in silver and I'm not a big fan of my sewer lids either...and cookie cutters don't fit :(

I love the color you painted them, i think it'd look awesome with my silver car...i'd paint the porsche emblem black for my car thow :D

They're pretty easy to do. I used Testors model paint (#1103 Red is very close to Guards Red). You just generously apply the paint to the recessed areas, and wipe off any that gets on the surface with a paper towel dampened with mineral spirits. I wrapped the paper towel around a small block of wood to keep it from getting down in the grooves where you want the paint to stay.

I had my cookie cutters powdercoated gray. I loved the color because they were dark enough to really set apart the guards red but not so dark they made my tires look grayish.

alright these pictures were taken a lonnng time ago and my car looks completely different now, so dont laugh! (looking at these pics are almost embarrasing with those tiny tires!)

But anyway, I painted these all black at first, used them for autocross for a long time, and then eventually painted the lip silver when I first got into drifting, so you could see the angle of the front wheel better.

I also have a set of fuchs that I painted black with a gold lip... it would probably look cool on phonedials on a white or black car....

Black with a silver lip would probably look cool. My car came with all 4 phone dials painted all black, and I eventually decided it kind of sucked with the silver body color. They just blend in with the tires. Might look good on a darker color, though, esp red. Now it's got 2 black wheels on the front and two factory silver wheels with most of the paint worn off on the back and the car looks like redneck crap. I really need to paint them.

moorepower, did you use any clear coat over the paint on those wheels, or is that just straight paint? They look great. ...and any tips on how to mask off the tires? I had a hard time getting anything to stick to them last attemt I made.

No, I didn't use any clearcoat. I was going to, but I liked the satin finish they had with just the paint, and I didn't want it to get too glossy. Also, if I get any chips or scratches, I can just sand the area and touch it up.

As for masking, I did two of the wheels before the tires were mounted, and the other two, I just cleaned the wheel (after sanding and prepping, of course) and tire with a toothbrush and some non-solvent degreaser. I hosed them off, let them dry, and taped them up. I used blue painter's tape and it stuck great.
