cold/hot idle kick down
I've read on several past threads that the idle will not change from cold to hot, but also have read quite the opposite, that the idle should kick down when the engine warms up. Can you guys tell me what your engines do on startup? Ideally what should the idle be doing?
My idle runs about 900 rpm cold, but as soon as it warms up it will increase to 1000 rpm. (83 N/A) Is this something that should be addressed? Car runs great otherwise. Should I suspect the AAV or the ICV. I'm not sure but it seems like they do the same thing: bypass air around the throttle body. Dave |

Supposed to idle at 950RPMs according to the manuel. Mine was doing about 850RPMs but tried to fix the "Tumble" that the early cars do when you rev them up. Didnt fix the tumble, but now mine idles at about 1K, and fluctuates a very tiny bit above and below. I think on a cold start the idle is lower, not much, but gets higher as she warms up with my car.

Vacuum leaks or mis-adjusted idle screws. Got to go searching for them, since it is really hard to guess at from a distance
![]() The idle is regulated at a fixed speed, cold or warm, using the ICV. Only when it is extremely cold should you get a high idle and it shouldn't last long.
