Removing front fenders, not coming off

I*m trying to remove a front 944 fender. Im sure I have all the bolts out but the fender wont budge. Im assuming its the undercoating making it stick, it there a trick or method here??? Thanks

I believe there is a type of glue used between the fender and body for strength. I don't know what you need to do to break the bond of the glue though.

Heat gun.

Start at one end, and start heating the goo that is holding the fender on. Start heating several inches beyond what is loose, and you can slowly work the fender off.

Don't forget the three bolts in the wheel well along the front edge of the door. Those three bolt heads will be covered in more goo.

pop your hood? just kidding, when i removed mine i just undid all of the bolts and pulled from the front of the fender up as there is less glue up front than in the rear of the fender (just be careful not to bend the thing if it's really stuck down hard...)

good luck!

Didn't the early cars have them spot welded? I just took the fenders off my 86 and they came off without any real force.

I was curious about how this was done as well

Have been told it was welded on but another handfull have said it was glued on... I'm kinda torn down the middle here, ugh

when i parted one of my '83's i took the fenders off. they were 'glued' on from the factory.

First time removal you will have to fight the undercoat / glue the factory used. Make sure you have all of the bolts out first. Check this picture for reference.

Ok I think we've answered they are glued. So how did you guys break the glue?? I've razor bladed underneth, banged with a rubber mallot still stuck like a rock.

I usually pull the fender out from the bottom. Always works for me.

Not the beat a dead horse here but did you get the one bolt that is in the back of the fender well behind the tire?

When I pulled the front pass. side fender off my 84 944 I remember breaking the windshield as I forgot to loosen that one bolt that is literally buried in the undercoating "glue".

Just want to check.

Scrape off the hard, brittle stuff. Use a heat gun and work a couple of wide carpenters chisels up into the seam. It is not glue, it is caulking/sealant.

Good luck,
Jon
