I know almost nothing about exhaust technology, let me get that out of the way.

But it looks like you have a 3.5" tip on that system. Did you look into finding a silencer that fits in the tip, the kind that's secured with set screws?

Yes, the tip is larger...4" I think. And I do have a silencer for it. But it's still too loud and I don't like the way the silencer makes it sounds. W/ the silencer it sounds like a civic IMO. It sounds pretty sweet without the silencer, but just too loud for me and the kid friendly neighborhood i live in.
If anyone seriously wants to buy it, send me a PM. I'm not sure about shipping it. I think that would be a PITA. I'd much rather sell it locally (I'm in CT).
If you search PP for GHL Cat-Back System you'll see they sell it for $895. (Part number PEL-944TM4).
Obviously I'm not looking to get anywhere near that price, but if someone wants it, make an offer... you might be surprised.

I'm glad you guys didn't rip me apart for my question since I pulled a rookie mistake already...Asking before searching other threads...tisk tisk...

So from what I've gathered...

The N/A 944 is so dependant on its sync with other factory parts that you're more than likely going to throw the tune of the vehicle outta whack if you start going aftermarket crazy.

Changing the cat is going to weaken my torque enough to where its not worth the HP gain/sound.

Also found that the general consensus for what muffler won't sound like a crappy honda, that's inexpensive, and won't hurt my performance is the Dynomax line...heard the super turbo and the ultra flo ss are good for a nice deep throaty rumble that's likely to set off some alarms in the parking garage : ) hehehe

I do have a question though about the cat replacement...since some people have hacked off their cat and replaced it with a high flow, striaght through, cylindrical style muffler (...not talking about a glass pack...something with more insulation...) that leads in to another hi flow muffler...does this still greatly hurt your backpressure/torque as much as it would if it were just a straight pipe to muffler???

If you think it's too loud now, how about this:

That's my kid's 951, with a Lindsey Racing 3" catless exhaust. As of last week, it's now mufflerless as well.

Loud doesn't adequately describe how it sounds. Plus he's got a 38mm Tial wastegate that dumps to atmosphere - basically it sounds like a race car. It just absolutely screams...

My son actually drives the car on the street, and at least in the last week, he hasn't gotten stopped.

I kinda think he's nuts, but I have to admit it does sound awful cool.

Back pressure does not increase torque, in fact, it reduces it! Its more work for the engine. What we where talking about, is increasing exhaust diameter, decreases backpressure(scavenging) at the higher revs, but increases it at the lower revs. It all depends on where you want the power in the range. Removing the cat and replacing with a fixed diameter pipe is going to reduce backpressure(more power) across the entire range.

What we where saying is - that for street use where you do a lot of standing starts, larger exhaust than stock may not be the best option.

you do from what I know need a little backpressure or something wont be right for the car..

Ah. I get ya now.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Just an update...
Yesterday I FINALLY took the GHL 3" Cat-Back Performance exhaust off the car and replaced it with a stock 2.5" cat-back system. I like the stock sound... still has a nice grumble, but not as loud as the other one. I was curious how the car would perform... whether i would get more low end torque, less low end torque, and honestly I can't really tell a difference. They seem the same. I do, however, think that with the 3" there was more torque when I hit the gas when I was already moving along at a good clip, like on the highway. But it's quiter, and hopefully now I won't wake the kiddos when I leave the house. :)

ANyway, if anyone's still interested in the 3" cat-back system, let me know. From what I understand, it's probably best for a turbo, or for someone who likes to take their car to the track. I posted a thread in the For Sale area with some pics.
Thanks for everyone's help and insight with all of this.
