You should able to just pull everything forward in one big mass. Remove the radiator first though.

Well that certainly reduced the workload I'd envisaged. Cheers.

Speedracing944, I'm curious how after you disconnect the X member and the engine from the torque tube how do you slide it forward and lower it to the ground and when reinstalling how are you raising it... that engine must weigh at least 250 lbs.

I have the engine hooked up to the engine hoist, disconnect everything, pull it forward until the splined shaft comes out of the bellhousing and then lower it to the ground. I use to just rest the engine on a piece of plywood and and then slide it out by hand after the car is raised up. Today I followed the suggestion of placing it on a creeper. That worked pretty well.

To raise the front of the car high enough to slide the engine out, I again used the engine hoist and chained it to the passenger side frame rail. I wrapped the chain with a couple layers of thick leather I had in the garage to prevent scratching.

Installation is the just the reverse.

Now I am trying to sort out the rats nest of electrical, vacuum and coolant lines. It is a little harder because the donor engine is from a 85.5 and my old engine is a 83. There are differences in the brackets and routing.

And the temp sensors. The 83 is different for cold start idle control.
