Ok I'm almost ready to start getting my engine back together and was wonder what I should do about screws and bolts. I have all the originals but i want all new ones, is there a kit for someone in my position or do I have to make a million trips to the hardware store finding each screw? Thanks in advance.

One of the best things i have ever done was buying a few cases of these assorted metric hardware. No longer do i need to stop everything and goto the hardware store which 90% of the time only carries metric hardware in grade 5. I cant tell you how much time it saves basically having the entire hardware isle in my basement..
.http://www.eagleday.com/faas.html http://www.*****************.com/product_p/mhk.htm You can piece together everything you need really by just buying the hardware from McMaster.com or BoltDepot.Com. I personally have the kit from Paragon and have added too it over the last few years. I now have about 4 cases worth of hardware that is commonly used on these cars. Here is a good 'starter' list if you want to just order everything seperatley.. Flat Washers - 6mm, 8mm, 10mm Lock Washers - 6mm, 8mm, 10mm Hex Nuts, get an assortment of locking, non locking and nylock. 6x1.00 8x1.25 10x1.5 Hex Bolt Sizes 6mm x 12 6mm x 20 6mm x 25 6mm x 30 8mm x 12 8mm x 20 8mm x 25 8mm x 30 8mm x 35 10mm x20 1.5 pitch 10mm x30 1.5 pitch This basically covers about 95% of the hardware you will encounter on a 944 series car.

I second the getting a metric nut and bolt kit. I got mine a Harbor Freight. Very inexpensive and they are new so they are nice and shiny. Serious bling!

I am lucky to have a great Ace Hardware store nearby which stocks almost everything I ever need. They even have tons of metric in stainless steel and chrome. It also helps that the owner of the store is a BMW M3 owner and enthusiast.

Thanks Techno Duck that was exactly what I was looking for. That you think that box from Paragon would be enough for the whole engine or should I buy two just to be on the safe side?

I think the box from Paragon probably wont be enough for the entire engine if you decide to replace every bit of hardware. What i would do is start assembly and figure out what the most common sizes are, and restock what you need as you go along. It would be much cheaper to buy the common stuff from Bolt Depot or McMaster than to buy another set..this way you dont end up with 2000 6mm washers
.There is also a bit of allen head hardware on the car, notably for the intake manifold and the cam tower. I actually have an assorted case of that also which has come in handy.. the allen cap stuff works well for certain hard to reach spots on the exhaust, especially on the 951. The only thing about the hardware from Paragon and other suppliers is that its the regular silver zinc plating. The only hardware i have seen available with the factory yellow zinc finish is from Eagle Day which is expensive! Not really a big deal, but if you want that originality thing it may mean something too you. One thing i actually wonder is if the new hardware available from Porsche still is cadmium or zinc alted. I know most commercial available hardware now days is all zinc plated because cadmium, though superior to corrosion and with better friction qualities is toxic. You typically only see cadmium plated stuff used on ships and boats now days. Thats not to say you can probably find a local place to replate whatever hardware you bring them in cadmium.

Again good input Tech, another quick question would this work good for honing my piston cylinders? Or should I go with something a bit more expensive to insure no mistakes?
