Chugging at low RPM's

I have my 1985 Porsche 944 and when I first start the car and put it into 1st i start out like normal but when I actually step on the gas it give a sort of chugging when around 1000 rpm's I read another thread on another site saying that this could partially be because of old plug wires? I considered replacing the wires with newer ones considering it is relatively cheap but I was looking for a other opinion could it be the fuel pump or just the car being cold? it tends to go away as I drive a little more but occasionally it seems to happen after driving, I also have a problem with my temp guage...is this common? My dad has a 1987 944S and his whole left gauge on the car seems to be not working, I will be driving and the temp gauge will sporadically jump all the way to the right, I will stop pop the hood and check the engine and it doesn't run warm, my dad has another gauge but is there another possible problem other than the gauge?
