New Plugs Pic - How Do They Look?

I put new NGK 6ES's in my 951 a few weeks ago. These only have about 75 miles on them (pretty hard miles since I've been trying to figure out a hesistation/detonation problem I've run into since installing a LBE and 951max chips). I pulled them today to take a look at them as well as to replace them with a set of 7ES's to see if there's any difference in how the car runs.

I'm having a bit of detonation at high RPM/boost at about 4500 RPM. Only happens with the pedal down and at high boost - sounds like someone shorting wires under the car.

Anyway, just curious what you guys think of these. The brown is not liquid...it's got a rusty kinda feel to it. Not sure if that's normal or not.

like i said - only ~75 total miles on these plugs and it's been driven pretty hard for most of those. Good to know that they look normal - this was the first time I've changed plugs since I bought my 951 a few months ago so had nothing to compare them to.

I'm going to put about the same on the 7ES's (and I gapped them down to about .026/.027 whereas I left the 6ES's at the stock .030) and see how they look. I can't really tell any difference in the way the car runs...it seems like the hesistation is less, but it's still there. The detonation is definitely still there - I am at a total loss on what to do to fix that...

Plugs look normal. BTW, a bigger gap = a bigger spark, bigger spark = better fuel burn. If you're really worried about it, you could index the plugs to be sure the spark isn't shrouded from the fuel mix, but the hesitation problem you're having is unlikely to be caused by bad plugs. Have you spec'd the injectors? Checked the timing?

As for the pinging, have you tried running new, clean premium gas and see if that cures the problem? Do you have access to 100 race gas? You could try that as part of the diagnostic. Are you sure it is detonation/pinging and not something else...??
