the carnage that took place in my garage

this is the carnage that went on in my garage. i just turned it on to move it back a few feet so i can put the van inside the garage, and as i cranked it, boom, i heard a hissing noise, and as i reversed, i saw it........ im guessing its the oil pan that self-destructed.......

i usually have a positive attitude towards things that break down, but this is just a huge downer for me. this is the last thing i need right now. i love this car since day one, and this looks pretty bad....i dont know the exact cause yet, its about 1AM, and my first focus is to clean the oil, but home depot isnt open right now to purchase sand.

once i clean it up, ill get on the floor and take a look. i was reading the "that special feeling" thread, and it struck a chord to me on this car. please tell me things will be ok :crying::crying:

i posted this also on rennlist, i just want to hear something from someone to tell me that it will be ok

How cold was it? My guess was the oil was too thick and it tossed a rod through the case. But If you are lucky it just esploded the gasket.

Hopefully you just blew the oil filter gasket off or lost a hose.

What's that orange stuff around your sump plug? Some kind of instant gasket residue? Why does the drain plug look so battered? Cowboy mechanics?

thank you porsche4life, 2tight, and dark skies. it does look pretty bad lol.

it took my about an hour and a half this morning to clean up about 5 quarts of oil all over the garage. it was about 32-37 degrees here in the tri sate at the time this happened. i just went to move the car to the back of the garage then it exploded lol. literally. yeaa i do know a bunch of renegade cowboys lol !!!!

it is all oil, the dipstick is super dry it all ended on the floor. i turned it off about 25 seconds it all happened just enough time to move the car to where it is now. im going to install a new oil filter and see what happens....im going to run to pep boys and get some oil.

and the rod HOPEFULLY didnt explode through the case.

it looks like a it came from the oil filter gasket....... but im going to take a look again

If the OPRV is stuck then it could have over-pressured the oil filter. That is a simple cause and the filter should be the only damage. Also could have just been a bad filter.

Good luck

Oil and filter change and see if any leaks out. Then get a buddy to start it and keep a really close eye on it.

Try first to turn it over by hand with a socket on the crankshaft. Do a full rotation. Just in case something inside did come loose you don't want to do any more damage.
Watch your oil pressure gauge, are you using the correct oil for winter temperatures?

it ran ok when i backed up but as i ran it, the oil went all over the place. i immediatly turned it off and left it there sitting for a few hours until morning. but i did find the problem and it wasnt as bad as it looked like. it just surprised me that it happened.

i use 10w30 in the cooler yearly temperatures and 20w50 in the warmer yearly weather.

i did the oil filter and oil change, maybe this was my cars way of telling me to do it lol. i can laugh at it now i guess......but now i am hearing a fast paced squealing sound now coming from the motor, can anything else have been damaged ?? thanks everyone for your support and feedback, i really appreciate it

im guessing it is just the belts being oily. prior to the oil and filter change i took a few dry rags and wiped everything i could reach with it.

and the oil filter brand is i belevie purelator or something like that. my dad's best friend works at autozone and just gives him free parts and such and in bulk too. i wont be using it anymore (because there is no more lol) but i bought a 6 pack of mahle oil filters compliments of rennbay ^_^ so im good thanks guys

I've followed you post and suggest you take the time to remove the cam and balance belt covers to check if the crank pully could have spun some of the oil on the main belts. Pelican sells the cam belt for $7.25 and it is really cheap insurance to change even if you're sure the current belt on is OK.

Ditto^ I really don't think you want to risk oil being on the timing and balance belts.

Strange --

I would still be asking myself why did it fail in this way? Certainly an overpressure situ -- but why?
