I recently acquired a very neglected 1983 944, and have been correcting the problems left by the PO's.
The biggest mystery now is with the self-depressing clutch pedal. My first attenpts were checking and adjusting free travel and assist spring with no results. I had about decided to bleed the system and replace the slave cylinder. Then I discovered the RETURN SPRING IS MISSING! I'm not sure this is the only problem but it seems to be a definate possibility. I have a new spring from PELICAN, but I can't figure out the correct attachement points on the pedal and the body. The pedal arm has a hole above the pivot point and a ''hook" at the top of the pedal arm. One end of the spring must attach to one of these. The other end of the spring seems to have 3 possible attachments, 2 holes in the body reinforcing member ahead of the pivot point, and also a clip with a hole welded to the body above the master cylinder pushrod. Also there seems to be two positions for the pedal. one, even with the brake pedal, and another position about 3/4 inch higher than tha brake. I could really use some help determining the spring attachment and why the clutch pedal seems to have two positions when released. Thanks much! |
